A new Parliament offers a fresh start to build new relationships with future TDs, let them know what you and your church expect, and urge them to take action to end poverty and create a more just and sustainable world.

We’ve put together some resources below setting out what Christian Aid Ireland is calling for in this 2024 Dáil election. Please consider asking some of the suggested questions as candidates come knocking on doors and leafletting, or by writing or emailing them.
It’s crucial we use our voice, like Helen did, speaking out against climate injustice:
This election offers us a crucial opportunity to put our faith into action. Reaching out to our candidates, our newly elected TDs, building relationships and showing them that we're serious about ending poverty.

Key questions to ask your election candidates
1. Climate justice
If elected will you scale up investment in climate action and work to reduce emissions in all sectors? Will you increase long-pledged funding to support poorer countries deal with the impacts of climate change?
2. A fairer global economy
Will you take action to tackle corporate tax avoidance and ensure everyone pays their fair share? Will you implement in Ireland the new EU corporate accountability law, to help clean up global supply chains?
3. Effective aid and development
Will you deliver on Ireland’s longstanding but unmet commitment to spending 0.7% of GNI on official development assistance (ODA)?
4. Prioritising peacebuilding
Will you ensure Ireland’s longstanding policy of military neutrality is maintained and strengthened, and emphasise mediation, dialogue and conflict-prevention in our foreign policy?
5. Defending human rights and international law in IOPT
Will you advocate internationally for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and unrestricted access for humanitarian aid? Will you urgently pass the Occupied Territories Bill and oppose any attempts to water it down?
